Romanian Film Days in Italy
October 26-31, 2007, Rome; November 5-9, 2007, Pisa
The Romanian Film Days in Italy were the biggest Romanian film promotion event held in Italy. Estenest organized a caravan, in cooperation with the Associazione ItaRoArte, the Arsenale Cineclub Pisa and the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, with the financial support of the Romanian Film Center.
Nineteen of the most successful recent Romanian short and feature films were shown in Rome and Pisa, including the 2007 Palme D’Or flick, Cristian Mungiu’s 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days; the 2005 Un Certain Regard award winner The Death of Mr Lazarescu, by Cristi Puiu; 12:08 East of Bucharest (d. Corneliu Porumboiu), winner of the Camera D’Or in Cannes in 2006; The Way I Spent the End of the World (d. Catalin Mitulescu, 2006), which brought Dorotheea Petre the award for the Best Actress of the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival; California Dreamin’ (Endless), by Cristian Nemescu, winner of the Un Certain Regard award in 2007.
Successful shorts in the selection included Adrian Sitaru’s Waves (Golden Leopard in Locarno, 2007), Nemescu’s Marilena from P7 (selected in the Cannes Critics’ Week), the most succesful Romanian short ever, Radu Jude’s The Tube With a Hat (selected in over 70 film festivals around the world), Traffic , by Catalin Mitulescu, winner of the Short Film Golden Palm in 2005, Cigarettes and Coffee (d. Cristi Puiu, Golden Berlin Bear 2004), Friday Around Eleven (d. Iulia Rugină, 2007), Svenja and the Others (d. Vlad Ilicevici, selected in the Karlovy Vary Fresh Film Fest 2006).
